What is Tzedakah?
"Whoever practices charity and justice fills the world with loving kindness"
- Talmud Sukkah
While the word Tzedakah is often equated to the English word charity, the Hebrew word comes from a root meaning justice or righteousness. Giving to those less fortunate than oneself is more than generosity, it is the carrying out of an obligation we all have to help others.
